I joined a computer software development company. The job there was pretty much interesting but I was never happy. There were many reasons for this.
I always felt that I was never given enough appreciations for the work I did. I was a quick learner and always tried my best to live up to the expectations of my manager.
She was, however, never impressed. I always wondered why this kept happening in spite of me providing her with all that was required within the deadlines. I was always well ahead of my deadlines. I made it a point to ensure quality of work submitted even when I completed it much ahead of others. Days and months went by but I never received an appreciation note from anyone in the company. I made up my mind to quit the job. I discussed about the same with my family and friends and all were quite supportive.
I got up early that morning and got dressed in the best attire I had in my wardrobe. I was putting down my papers that day and I wanted my manager to remember me forever. I reached office much before the scheduled time and started working on my software project. I had to complete an urgent work that day and hence stayed glued to my seat all the time.
Finally, I completed my work and send a message to my boss stating the same. She asked me to meet her in half an hour in her cabin. I knocked the door and stepped in. I was surprised to see all the members of my team in the room with her. There was a huge applause as I entered the room. Everyone was called in for an urgent meeting by the manager to share happy news with me. I was promoted as the technical lead. It was hardly 6 months since I joined the company and never expected such a thing. Everyone congratulated me and I was overwhelmed with joy.
This was the most unforgettable day at work for me and I did have a talk with my boss as soon as the others left her cabin. I did not feel like telling her about my decision to quit the company had I not received the promotion. I told her how I felt bad when I received no appreciation even when I performed better than the others did. She told me that she was a person who had full confidence in my skills and hence wanted to test me hard before giving me a quick promotion. If she had appreciated me when I did my job well, I would have been happy for sure but the way I was promoted made me enjoy the most memorable day at work!
